Qualcomm EDL (9008) and MTK Modes: What You Can Actually Read
EDL and MTK bootrom modes are the deepest access most labs get on a phone. They do not decrypt anything.
What the modes provide
Qualcomm EDL (device shows as 9008) accepts a signed firehose programmer that can read and write partitions. MTK bootrom/preloader modes work with vendor tools. Vendor authentication often limits reads of userdata.
Why the dump is still encrypted
Android's file-based encryption keeps userdata ciphertext with keys in the TEE bound to the credential. A raw dump is a locked safe: useful for forensics and structure analysis, not for photos.
FAQ
Can EDL bypass a locked screen?
No. It can image storage; it cannot derive the keys.
Is flashing firmware in EDL safe?
Wrong firmware can turn a recoverable device into a brick. Image first.
